Mental Health and Wellbeing series – Teachers

  • 0

Last week we posted the first in our Mental Health and Wellbeing series. This was primarily focussed on children in the classroom, however mental health does not discriminate and adults are just as affected.

The world health organisation definition is as follows:

“Mental health is defined as a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community. “

We are currently living in an environment that is uncharted territory for us, with social media, increased workload and changes within our society have contributed to the way we interact with our community and how we are able to cope with life’s normal stresses. Something to consider is how “normal” is defined? It is becoming increasingly important for leaders within schools to have effective strategies to not support staff but also to identify staff that may be struggling. We will go over this in our next blog.

For now, you have the power to develop strategies, habits and recognise your stress triggers.
