A week in Kenya, training teachers

Day 1:

Hi all, Ash and I have made it safely to Kenya. We spent Sunday recovering from our flight, prepping for Monday, and getting to know our great team of volunteers. Monday has started really well, the Memusi teachers welcomed us back with open arms and the volunteers have wasted no time getting into the classroom and interacting with teachers and students. More to follow throughout the week.

Day 2

Day 3:

Hi all, we are now into day three and it is safe to say morale is at an all-time high due to the success of the sports field yesterday. Teacher Ericks 1st 11 boys football team took out the whole competition and they are currently the pride of Memusi! We are back to our normal schedule today with a big focus on Extended Learning to build upon the Active Learning strategies covered earlier in the week

Day 4:

Hi all, another sunny day here in the Magadi. Carys nailed her seminar last night and really challenged the Memusi teachers with the concept of Extended Learning. Our focus today will be to support the Memusi crew in trialling some new methodologies through our observations and feedback. The Impact team are running strong at the tail end of the week and are as excited and motivated as they were on day one. Food is good, the pool is refreshing, and Ash has plenty of itchy bite cream to combat her mozzie bites.

Kenya Day 5

Hi all, today we are experiencing the bittersweet feelings that come with having been part of something special that we must now leave behind. The final seminar led by Chan was incredibly effective and saw a valuable exchange of ideas and dialogue between the Memusi Teachers and the Impact crew. We had a humbling visit to a traditional Maasai tribal village yesterday afternoon, and the only thing left for today are final reflections, feedback, and farewells. Next stop, Nairobi for a few well earned Tusker lagers.
